Reasons to Invest in Outdoor Wall Art

Admin • • Category: Interior DesignAdd Comments

In order to have a personalized and unique look, most people take great care in setting up their homes. Each room is prepared after much thought and effort. After much diligence, the curtains match the bed sheets, the wall décor complements the theme of the living room, and the bathroom is color coordinated. However, in perfecting the interior of the home, the exterior is often forgotten. Simply putting an outdoor wall art can liven up things on the outside too.

Outdoor wall art allows you to let your imagination run wild.  Ideas that didn’t seem to go well with your bedroom theme or that were inappropriate for a homely setting may be incorporated in the great outdoors. If you enjoy your summer days by the pool, a seagull or dolphin decoration piece or painting will give you and your kids a fun and relaxing environment. You can also welcome your guests by hanging plaques that have interesting hospitable phrases, such as, come one come all, or open 24 hours, carved or painted on them.

It may seem impossible to keep a painting outdoors without it deteriorating into something unrecognizable over time, however research show that most outdoor wall paintings are resistant to the elements of the open-air. Basically, the canvas is made entirely of weather proof material, thus preventing fading, peeling, oxidation, and decomposition. They are also protected from moisture, freezing temperatures, and ultraviolet rays. This is because ultraviolent ink itself is used in printing or painting canvas.

Other than the bearing the extremes of the weather, the art paintings have a three dimensional feel as the artwork is wrapped around the side of a canvas, usually made of aluminum or a steel armature. These are often the base as they are lightweight but strong and resilient, withstanding the harshest of environmental elements.

What makes outdoor wall arts a definite must-have is not only their durability but the fact that they require minimum maintenance.  If any dust or dirt is found resting on your decoration, the most you would have to do is wash the surfaces with a little soap and water.

Furthermore, you do not have to worry whether you will be able to hang or display a certain wall décor on the exterior surface of your home, as most wall art come with mounting brackets and fasteners. This enables you to attach your decoration on just about any surface, including stone, wood and brick.

So start working on your outdoor wall art. Your terrace, front porch, fence, and garden walls, all can be transformed from a dull and dreary place to a place of comfort.

Sash Window Weights, A Very Old but Effective Design

Admin • • Category: DIY Home ImprovementAdd Comments

Sash windows are a very old design and have been known to go back as far as the early 1660s. The earliest in England being in the 1670s, is Ham House which was and still is located beside the River Thames in the area of Ham near London. This building is now owned by the National Trust. These particular windows all have one thing in common and that is the sash window weights which are used to raise and lower the window are hidden from view.

These weights, said to have been invented by Robert Hooke an inventor and scientist who lived in England, are a necessary part of the design of these types of windows. Before the actual window is put into its fitting, there has to be an allowance made at either side of the frame for the window weights to fit and to be able to slide up and down.

The sash window weights are made from lead, cast iron or heavy steel and once installed act as a counter balance when the window sash is raised or lowered.  They usually hang from a cord or chain and this is positioned on a pulley at the top of the frame on the same side as the window, so that as it is lifted the weight drops down and holds the window up. The reverse of this happens when the window is physically lowered by hand with the weight inside the framework being raised. The sash weight at this stage is not heavy enough to re lift the window by itself.

The weights are hidden from view once the window is installed and they slide up and down in the allowance area at the side. One set is used when only the bottom sash is able to open or close, this allows for half of the bottom window area to be open as the top one is fixed in place.

When there is a hung or double sash window this refers to both sashes being able to move. The upper window is able to be pulled down or lowered so that the top half on the upper section is open, which allows ventilation through this area of the window and the bottom is raised up and lowered as usual. This requires an extra set of sash window weights to be attached inside the framework of the upper section, exactly the same as the lower section but on the opposite side where the upper window is fitted.

With sash windows these may have a few problems which are caused by these weights, such as wear which may cause a rattling effect in windy weather and sticking after the application of a coat of paint. There may also be swelling of the wood during wet weather which does not allow the weights to either lift or lower the window sash.

The double sash windows are however great for ventilation and cooling of a room on a hot day as the upper and lower sections can be positioned halfway to allow hot air

Spruce up your garden with metal garden decor crafts

Admin • • Category: DIY Home ImprovementAdd Comments

Keen gardeners will always find projects in the garden that will enable them to have a well rounded set of crops or plants. There are always things that can be grown or cultivated, and with the changing of seasons, there will forever be a reason to continue working in the land. However, you may wish to aid that keen gardener, or you might just be looking for a project that will last the test of time and be able to withstand the elements. Creating metal garden décor crafts will be a task that is both fun and enjoyable, and you can even make your project environmentally sound, by recycling a lot of the items from various places around your homestead.

There are many projects that can be utilized from old metal, and each idea brings s a different look and feel to your garden. You can opt for a theme for these designs, or you can simply go with your heart and create something that you feel inspired to fix. For example, your garden may need some arches to frame a walkway, and by using railings or fencings, or even taking the time to secure bits of junk to a basic structure, you can really create a fantastic and unique piece. You can also create a trellis to hold your plants up using the same methods.

Other works will often be time consuming, but can be a delightful addition to your garden when you have practiced the more simple designs and are willing to either improve on your skills, or turn your hands to the more outlandish creations. Designs do not always have to be large either, there are always useful ideas that stem from other pieces of furniture, such as shelving units or chairs which have been altered for the purpose of holding plants and vines.  By customizing these items, your garden can be changed into a recycled haven of inexpensive crafts that you will be able to reuse whenever the need arises.

If creating useful items is not in your repertoire, then you may wish to produce pieces that simply add color, or an air of decadence to your patio or garden. With that in mind, there will be a multitude of artworks that can be made. Animal designs can be created, either in abstract form to show the form of your chosen animal, or you can show your skill by being extremely intricate with the junk you have plotted together in fixing a full likeness.

Metal sculptures have often been seen in large parks and open spaces, dotted around the country in various places, standing out starkly amidst country views. You may wish to emulate this style by placing the designs among your flowers, or adding greenery to the metal.  Your own creations do not have to be as perfect, but rather a simple way of changing the way your garden looks without you having to spend thousands of dollars on an ornamental design that suits your tastes.

Things Upholstered Accent Chairs Do that Homeowners Should Realize

Admin • • Category: Interior DesignAdd Comments

pholstered accent chairs would lure any home owner to their appearance and style. Accent chairs are chairs placed in a certain room to emphasize the grander seating layout. They could also add a touch in how the chairs are arranged. Adding them with the rest of the furniture will surely add some vibrant appeal on the overall impact of the room.

There exist plenty of styles of the accent chairs. There the types whose back are straight and padded on the center. These have wooden legs and have an antique feel if the fabric chosen coordinates with the wooden frame. Sometimes, the legs are made of wrought iron. The legs of accent chairs are usually slim and this makes these chairs a nice filler of a room corner. The upholstered ones often have deep seats and can blend easily with the other furniture in the house. Aside from being an attractive physical appearance, these chairs are comfortable to sit on.

You can place these chairs in your cozy living area where they go perfectly with your existing furniture. Remember to use the space wisely. These accent chairs will suit the corners of the room well. They also work best near the windows. Your chairs can enhance the look of your room while providing you with a seat on the little corner to relax on while having your favorite drink. These chairs can only do a positive effect if putting them in an environment that would compliment their style and color. Accent chairs can tone things down if the room deems to be brighter than expected. In contrast, they can add color to a pale and barren room.

In your bedroom, accent chairs can also do some enrichment. Two accent chairs that can be placed on either side of a table will provide the occupant with some support to read a book or to use the laptop.

If you want to tweak your office space, then wooden accent chairs may do the trick. These hand crafted furniture can accentuate any stark office. They may be manufactured from Rosewood, mahogany or cherry, but no matter what the material is, the important thing to consider is that these chairs must match the already present furniture in that office space, or else the addition of the said chair has done no good.

The room will be only enhanced if and only if the accent chairs can compliment the color and style existing in the room and its furniture. Also, putting these chairs on the right place can make a lot of difference. If placed on the wrong spot, then it can make the room appear crowded, that’s why putting the chairs on the corner is a nice tip. Sophisticated chairs, if paired with a classic table, can intensify the loveliness of the living area.

Tip When Buying Fabric for Your Window Treatment Ideas

Admin • • Category: Interior DesignAdd Comments

Window treatments can look great when done right. There are many different colors patterns and fabrics that can be used when it comes to making your own. If you are out to make your own window treatments, then this article is written to give you a few simple tips you may like to think about before buying fabric for your window treatment ideas. Here are just a few things you might like to think about.

When it comes to making your window treatments for your home, one of the things that you might like to think about first is which area of the home these treatments will be for. The rooms that the curtains will be made for will determine the fabric that will be needed. If it is for an area that may succumb to stains easily like above the kitchen sink and laundry areas, it may be best to look into fabric that is easily washed and dried without ruining it.

The fabric also needs to be able to set the room off in the right way. Working out what color the window treatments will be is also a necessity. The color of the treatments should complement the surrounding room. If you can’t work out whether it matches or not, then why not ask a relative to see what they think.

The length of the fabric is something else that needs to be thought of. The length is determined by the type of fabric window treatment ideas you are thinking of and the window it will cover. Long treatments use a lot more fabric so it is important before you buy your fabric to measure the window and add another few centimeters on to make up for the amount that will be added to the rod to help hang it.

Another thing that should be look at is whether these window treatments will be used to minimize or maximize heat, coldness, darkness and light. If you are looking to make treatments for the purpose of keeping light out, then a heavier fabric may be needed to help ensure that light cannot escape through it. Heavy fabrics are good for keeping coldness or heat within a room which may be beneficial for summer or winter.

If you are looking to keep sunlight down but add more light to a room, then a lighter fabric may be more ideal for this situation. Lighter fabric is better for covering the windows but still allowing for light and warmth to come in. So working out what these will be used for is something else that needs to be addressed.

So when it comes to making your own window treatments from scratch, then why not keep some of these tips in mind before buying the fabric that you need. This way you can make your treatments right the first time.

Every kind of conceivable opening is built into this multifaceted rectangular table that swings, slides, pivots and bends open on all sides.

Naoki Hirakoso put work, though, not only into the openings but in how they would look and work when closed – subtly abstract lines traced around the sides of this otherwise plain and linear box.

Simple light-colored, gloss-finished plywood contrasts with the dark recesses that emerge when the panels and drawers flip open, creating contrast without variations in color.

bang door knob 3 A Rough Door Knob Design: Bang Bang Handle by Nikita Kovalev

Few people love guns. However, this unusual door-knob entitled Bang Bang Handle and designed by Nikita Kovalev does not necessarily appeal to the violent type, but rather to the extravagant persons, the ones who like to stand out of the crowd. I did not find any information about this design actually being produced, so I imagine it is currently just a concept. It is also not clear how exactly the product works. Does pulling the trigger have anything to do with activating the handle mechanism and opening/closing the door, or is it just there to intimidate? All in all, this door knob is original, which is why we decided to share it further in the first place. It also comes in a variety of colors, which makes it easy to integrate in various contemporary interiors. It is up for you to help us solve these design-related dilemmas. How do you believe this product works and most importantly, what do you think of it?

The dining area is a semi-secluded space with white Knappa pendant lamps hanging over the dining table accompanied by a pair of walnut Queen Anne chairs with red velvet seat.

Modern Street Painting Encorporates an Entire Swiss Village

streetpainting21 600x7701 Modern Street Painting Encorporates an Entire Swiss Village

The picturesque Switzerland village of Vercorin located high above Sierre in the Rhone valley is a place that embraces culture. Each summer, artists are asked to come here and create inspiring works, that connect the entire village. In 2010, the artists of Lang/Baumann were in charge of the village makeover. They developed a street painting on the roads, which is visually engaging for all of the inhabitants and visitors of Vercorin: “We thought it would be interesting to work on the surface of the roads because it was kind of a free zone, Most of the houses and their facades are very old, historical wood surfaced and it seemed interesting to us to contrast them with bright colors on the street“, said Lang. How did the local people react to this project?  “Many of the village inhabitants passed by and followed the process of painting. They used it in a very playful way later, especially the children used it to cycle or skate or walk on the lines.” What is your opinion regarding street art works?
